Tips to Get Your Work Published as a Wedding Photographer

These are some of the tips and tricks I have learned through the process of working to get published.

When you are shooting a wedding, there are things you can do throughout the day that will make the submission process easier.

Publications want things that will inspire other brides and even other vendors.  “Pinnable” images are what they use to drive traffic to their sites.  The more pinnable your images, the better!

What is a “pinnable” image?

These are the florals, invitations, table scapes, ceremony set up, dresses, tuxes, etcetera.  In our world, we call these the “detail shots”.

Most publications want between 100-150 shots.  Over 60% of the images you submit should be detail and the other portraits. Though many publications want both horizontal and vertical, vertical is more popular with publications.

Make it all look more expensive then it is. We know this is where our style comes into play.

Something else I highly recommend is getting a subscription to twobrightlights. I have been successful in getting over 30 shoots published with them.  Their submission process is very step by step as you submit your shoots.  They will recommend publications to use and they also have a category of submission that are looking for a specific type of shoot.

Don’t get discouraged as you start the publishing process.  Your time will come and I hope these tips and tricks help you be successful.
